15 ConnectionsSimulations of Electron Capture and Low-Mass Iron Core Supernovae
🪐 Astronomy / CosmologyThe evolutionary pathways of core-collapse supernova progenitors at the low-mass end of the spectrum are beset with major uncertainties. In recent years, a variety of evolutionary channels has been discovered in addition to the classical electron capture supernova channel of super-AGB stars. The few available progenitor models at the low-mass end have been studied with great success in supernova simulations as the peculiar density structure makes for robust neutrino-driven explosions in this mas
Nucleosynthesis of elements between Sr and Ag in neutron- and proton-rich neutrino-driven winds
🪐 Astronomy / CosmologyNeutrino-driven winds that follow core collapse supernovae were thought to be the site where half of the heavy elements are produced by the r-process. Although recent hydrodynamic simulations show that the conditions in the wind are not enough for the r-process, lighter heavy elements like Sr, Y, and Zr can be produced. However, it is still not clear whether the conditions in the wind are slightly neutron rich or proton rich. Here we investigate the nucleosynthesis in neutrino-driven winds for b

A multi-modal infant-based metric for choosing the best supernova
🪐 Astronomy / CosmologyWe present a comparative study of 22 core-collapse supernovae (SNe), selected to explore a novel, multidimensional ranking scheme aimed at identifying the best supernova. Each SN is evaluated based on three principal criteria: (1) inferred explosion energy derived from light curve modeling and spectroscopic indicators; (2) an aesthetic score assigned to the SN host galaxy following transformation into a human face using a generative visual model (Midjourney v5); and (3) final ranking by Claud.IA

Explosive nucleosynthesis of ultra-stripped Type Ic supernovae: application to light trans-iron elements
🪐 Astronomy / CosmologyWe investigate the explosive nucleosynthesis during two dimensional neutrino-driven explosion of ultra-stripped Type Ic supernovae evolved from 1.45 and 1.5 M$_\odot$ CO stars. These supernovae explode with the explosion energy of $\sim 10^{50}$ erg and release $\sim 0.1$ M$_\odot$ ejecta. The light trans-iron elements Ga-Zr are produced in the neutrino-irradiated ejecta. The abundance distribution of these elements has a large uncertainty because of the uncertainty of the electron fraction of t

Neutrinos and Heavy Element Nucleosynthesis
🪐 Astronomy / CosmologyThis chapter discusses three nucleosynthesis processes involved in producing heavy nuclei beyond the iron group that are influenced or shaped by neutrino interactions: the v process, the vp process and the r process. These processes are all related to explosive events involving compact objects, such as core-collapse supernovae and binary neutron star mergers, where an abundant amount of neutrinos are emitted. The interactions of the neutrinos with nucleons and nuclei through both charged-current
