Surah Al-Ma'idah • Ayah 72

The Disbelief of the Christians; `Isa Only called to TawhidAllah states that the Christians such sects as Monarchite, Jacobite and Nestorite are disbelievers, those among them who say that `Isa is Allah. Allah is far holier than what they attribute to Him. They made this claim in spite of the fact that `Isa made it known that he was the servant of Allah and His Messenger. The first words that `Isa uttered when he was still a baby in the cradle were, "I am `Abdullah (the servant of Allah)." He did not say, "I am Allah," or, "I am the son of Allah." Rather, he said,إِنِّى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ءَاتَانِىَ الْكِتَـبَ وَجَعَلَنِى نَبِيّاً(Verily, I am a servant of Allah, He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet.) until he said,وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ رَبِّى وَرَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُوهُ هَـذَا صِرَطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ ("And verily Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him (Alone). That is the straight path.") He also proclaimed to them when he was a man, after he was sent as a Prophet, commanding them to worship his Lord and their Lord, alone without partners,وَقَالَ الْمَسِيحُ يَابَنِى إِسْرَءِيلَ اعْبُدُواْ اللَّهَ رَبُّى وَرَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ مَن يُشْرِكْ بِاللَّهِ(But the Messiah said, "O Children of Israel! worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Verily, whosoever sets up partners with Allah...) in worship;فَقَدْ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيهِ الْجَنَّةَ وَمَأْوَاهُ النَّارُ(. ..then Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode.) as He will send him to the Fire and forbid Paradise for him. Allah also said;إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ(Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with Him (in worship), but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He wills.) and,وَنَادَى أَصْحَـبُ النَّارِ أَصْحَـبَ الْجَنَّةِ أَنْ أَفِيضُواْ عَلَيْنَا مِنَ الْمَآءِ أَوْ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللَّهُ قَالُواْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَهُمَا عَلَى الْكَـفِرِينَ (And the dwellers of the Fire will call to the dwellers of Paradise; "Pour on us some water or anything that Allah has provide you with." They will say: "Allah has forbidden both to the disbelievers.") It is recorded in the Sahih that the Prophet had someone proclaim to the people,«إِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ لَا يَدْخُلُهَا إِلَّا نَفْسٌ مُسْلِمَة»(Only a Muslim soul shall enter Paradise.) In another narration,«مُؤْمِنَة»(Only a believing soul...) This is why Allah said that `Isa said to the Children of Israel,إِنَّهُ مَن يُشْرِكْ بِاللَّهِ فَقَدْ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيهِ الْجَنَّةَ وَمَأْوَاهُ النَّارُ وَمَا لِلظَّـلِمِينَ مِنْ أَنصَارٍ(Verily, whosoever sets up partners with Allah, then Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And there are no helpers for the wrongdoers.) There is no help from Allah, nor anyone who will support or protect them from the state they will be in. Allah's statement,لَّقَدْ كَفَرَ الَّذِينَ قَالُواْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ثَـلِثُ ثَلَـثَةٍ(Surely, they have disbelieved who say: "Allah is the third of three.") Mujahid and several others said that this Ayah was revealed about the Christians in particular. As-Suddi and others said that this Ayah was revealed about taking `Isa and his mother as gods besides Allah, thus making Allah the third in a trinity. As-Suddi said, "This is similar to Allah's statement towards the end of the Surah,وَإِذْ قَالَ اللَّهُ يعِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ أَءَنتَ قُلتَ لِلنَّاسِ اتَّخِذُونِى وَأُمِّىَ إِلَـهَيْنِ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ قَالَ سُبْحَـنَكَ(And (remember) when Allah will say: "O `Isa, son of Maryam! Did you say unto men: `Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allah' He will say, "Glory be to You!")5:116. Allah replied,وَمَا مِنْ إِلَـهٍ إِلاَّ إِلَـهٌ وَحِدٌ(But there is no god but One God.) meaning there are not many worthy of worship but there is only One God without partners, and He is the Lord of all creation and all that exists. Allah said next, while threatening and admonishing them,وَإِن لَّمْ يَنتَهُواْ عَمَّا يَقُولُونَ(And if they cease not from what they say, ) their lies and false claims,لَيَمَسَّنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنْهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ(verily, a painful torment will befall the disbelievers among them.) in the Hereafter, shackled and tormented. Allah said next,أَفَلاَ يَتُوبُونَ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَهُ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ (Will they not repent to Allah and ask His Forgiveness For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.) This demonstrates Allah's generosity, kindness and mercy for His creatures, even though they committed this grave sin and invented such a lie and false allegation. Despite all of this, Allah calls them to repent so that He will forgive them, for Allah forgives those who sincerely repent to Him.`Isa is Allah's Servant and His Mother is a Truthful BelieverAllah said,مَّا الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ إِلاَّ رَسُولٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِ الرُّسُلُ(The Messiah, son of Maryam, was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him.) `Isa is just like the previous Prophets, and he is one of the servants of Allah and one of His honorable Messengers. Allah said in another Ayah,إِنْ هُوَ إِلاَّ عَبْدٌ أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَجَعَلْنَـهُ مَثَلاً لِّبَنِى إِسْرَءِيلَ (He `Isa was not more than a servant. We granted Our favor to him, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel.) Allah said next,وَأُمُّهُ صِدِّيقَةٌ(His mother was a Siddiqah) for she believed in Allah with complete trust in Him. This is the highest rank she was given, which proves that she was not a Prophet. Allah said next,كَانَا يَأْكُلاَنِ الطَّعَامَ(They both used to eat food) needing nourishment and to relieve the call of nature. Therefore, they are just servants like other servants, not gods as ignorant Christian sects claim, may Allah's continued curses cover them until the Day of Resurrection. Allah said next,انْظُرْ كَيْفَ نُبَيِّنُ لَهُمُ الاٌّيَـتِ(Look how We make the Ayat clear to them. ) making them unequivocal and plain,ثُمَّ انْظُرْ أَنَّى يُؤْفَكُونَ(yet look how they are deluded away (from the truth).) look at the opinions, misguided ideas, and claims they cling to, even after Our clarification and plain, unequivocal explanation.

خود ساختہ معبود بنانا ناقابل معافی جرم ہے ٭٭نصرانیوں کے فرقوں کی یعنی ملکیہ، یعقوبیہ، نسطوریہ کی کفر کی حالت بیان کی جا رہی ہے کہ ” یہ مسیح ہی کو اللہ کہتے ہیں اور مانتے ہیں۔ اللہ ان کے قول سے پاک، منزہ اور مبرا ہے مسیح تو اللہ کے غلام تھے سب سے پہلا کلمہ ان کا دنیا میں قدم رکھتے ہی گہوارے میں ہی یہ تھا کہ «اِنِّیْ عَبْدُ الّلهِ» [19-مريم:30] ‏ ” میں اللہ کا غلام ہوں “۔ انہوں نے یہ نہیں کہا تھا کہ میں اللہ ہوں یا اللہ کا بیٹا ہوں بلکہ اپنی غلامی کا اقرار کیا تھا اور ساتھ ہی فرمایا تھا کہ میرا اور تم سب کا رب اللہ ہی ہے اسی کی عبادت کرتے رہو سیدھی اور صحیح راہ یہی ہے اور یہی بات اپنی جوانی کے بعد کی عمر میں بھی کہی کہ اللہ ہی کی عبادت کرو اس کے ساتھ دوسرے کی عبادت کرنے والے یہ جنت حرام ہے اور اس کیلئے جہنم واجب ہے “۔ جیسے قرآن کی اور آیت میں ہے «إِنَّ اللَّـهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِ» [4-النساء:48] ‏ ” اللہ تعالیٰ شرک کو معاف نہیں فرماتا “۔ «وَنَادَىٰ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ أَنْ أَفِيضُوا عَلَيْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ أَوْ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللَّـهُ قَالُوا إِنَّ اللَّـهَ حَرَّمَهُمَا عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ» ‏ [7-الأعراف:50] ‏ ” جہنمی جب جنتیوں سے کھانا پانی مانگیں گے تو اہل جنت کا یہی جواب ہوگا کہ یہ دونوں چیزیں کفار پر حرام ہے “۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے بذریعہ منادی کے مسلمانوں میں آواز لگوائی تھی کہ جنت میں فقط ایمان و اسلام والے ہی جائیں گے ۔ [صحیح مسلم:114] ‏ سورۃ نساء کی آیت «اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ اَنْ يُّشْرَكَ بِهٖ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُوْنَ ذٰلِكَ لِمَنْ يَّشَاءُ وَمَنْ يُّشْرِكْ باللّٰهِ فَقَدِ افْتَرٰٓى اِثْمًا عَظِيْمًا» [4-النساء:48] ‏، کی تفسیر میں وہ حدیث بھی بیان کر دی گئی ہے جس میں ہے کہ گناہ کے تین دیوان ہیں جس میں سے ایک وہ ہے جسے اللہ نے کبھی نہیں بخشا اور وہ اللہ کے ساتھ شرک کا ہے ۔ مسیح نے بھی اپنی قوم میں یہی وعظ بیان کیا اور فرما دیا کہ ”ایسے ناانصاف مشرکین کا کوئی مددگار بھی کھڑا نہ ہوگا۔‏“صفحہ نمبر2390اب ان کا کفر بیان ہو رہا ہے کہ جو اللہ کو تین میں سے ایک مانتے تھے یہودی عزیر علیہ السلام کو اور نصرانی عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کو اللہ کا بیٹا کہتے تھے اور اللہ تین میں کا ایک مانتے تھے پھر ان تینوں کے مقرر کرنے میں بھی بہت بڑا اختلاف تھا اور ہر فرقہ دوسرے کو کافر کہتا تھا اور حق تو یہ ہے کہ سبھی سب کافر تھے، حضرت مسیح علیہ السلام کو اور انکی ماں کو اور اللہ کو ملا کر اللہ مانتے تھے اسی کا بیان اس سورت کے آخر میں ہے کہ قیامت کے دن اللہ تعالیٰ حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام سے فرمائے گا ” کیا تم نے لوگوں سے کہا تھا کہ مجھے اور میری والدہ کو بھی اللہ مانو، وہ اس سے صاف انکار کریں گے اور اپنی لاعلمی اور بےگناہی ظاہر کریں گے “۔ زیادہ ظاہر قول بھی یہی ہے «وَاللهُ اَعْلَمُ» ۔ دراصل لائق عبادت سوائے اس ذات واحد کے اور کوئی نہیں تمام کائنات اور کل موجودات کا معبود برحق وہی ہے۔ اگر یہ اپنے اس کافرانہ نظریہ سے باز نہ آئے تو یقیناً یہ المناک عذابوں کا شکار ہوں گے۔ پھر اللہ تعالیٰ اپنے کرم وجود کو، بخشش و انعام اور لطف و رحمت کو بیان فرما رہا ہے اور باوجود ان کے اس قدر سخت جرم، اتنی اشد بے حیائی اور کذب و افتراء کے انہیں اپنی رحمت کی دعوت دیتا ہے اور فرماتا ہے کہ ” اب بھی میری طرف جھک جاؤ ابھی سب معاف فرما دوں گا اور دامن رحمت تلے لے لوں گا۔ مسیح اللہ کے بندے اور رسول ہی تھے، ان جیسے رسول ان سے پہلے بھی ہوئے ہیں “۔ جیسے فرمایا «‏إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا عَبْدٌ أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَجَعَلْنَاهُ مَثَلًا لِّبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ» [43-الزخرف:59] ‏، ” وہ ہمارے ایک غلام ہی تھے ہاں ہم نے ان پر رحمت نازل فرمائی تھی اور بنی اسرائیل کیلئے قدرت کی ایک نشائی بنائی “۔صفحہ نمبر2391” والدہ عیسیٰ علیہ السلام مومنہ اور سچ کہنے والی تھیں “، اس لیے معلوم ہوا کہ نبیہ نہ تھیں کیونکہ یہ مقام وصف ہے تو بہترین وصف جو آپ کا تھا وہ بیان کر دیا۔ اگر نبوت والی ہوتیں تو اس موقعہ پر اس کا بیان نہایت ضروری تھا۔ ابن حزم رحمة الله وغیرہ کا خیال ہے کہ ام اسحاق اور ام موسیٰ اور ام عیسیٰ رضی اللہ عنہا نبیہ تھیں اور دلیل یہ دیتے ہیں کہ فرشتوں نے سارہ اور مریم سے خطاب اور کلام کیا اور والدہ موسیٰ رضی اللہ عنہا کی نسبت فرمان ہے آیت «وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰ أَنْ أَرْضِعِيهِ» [28-القصص:7] ‏ الخ، ” ہم نے موسیٰ کی والدہ کی طرف وحی کی کہ تو انہیں دودھ پلا “۔ لیکن جمہور کا مذہب اس کے خلاف ہے وہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبوت مردوں میں ہی رہی۔ جیسے قرآن کا فرمان ہے آیت «وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ إِلَّا رِجَالًا نُّوحِي إِلَيْهِم مِّنْ أَهْلِ الْقُرَىٰ» [12-يوسف:109] ‏، ” تجھ سے پہلے ہم نے بستی والوں میں سے مردوں ہی کی طرف رسالت انعام فرمائی ہے “۔ شیخ ابوالحسن اشعری نے تو اس پر اجماع نقل کیا ہے۔ پھر فرماتا ہے کہ ” ماں بیٹا تو دونوں کھانے پینے کے محتاج تھے “ اور ظاہر ہے کہ جو اندر جائے گا وہ باہر بھی آئے گا پس ثابت ہوا کہ وہ بھی مثل اوروں کے بندے ہی تھے اللہ کی صفات ان میں نہ تھیں۔ ” دیکھ تو ہم کس طرح کھول کھول کر ان کے سامنے اپنی حجتیں پیش کر رہے ہیں؟ پھر یہ بھی دیکھ کہ باوجود اس کے یہ کس طرح ادھر ادھر بھٹکتے اور بھاگتے پھرتے ہیں؟ کیسے گمراہ مذہب قبول کر رہے ہیں؟ اور کیسے ردی اور بے دلیل اقوال کو گرہ میں باندھے ہوئے ہیں؟“صفحہ نمبر2392

آیت 72 لَقَدْ کَفَرَ الَّذِیْنَ قَا لُوْٓا اِنَّ اللّٰہَ ھُوَ الْمَسِیْحُ ابْنُ مَرْیَم ط یہ وہی بات ہے جو اس سے پہلے اسی سورة کی آیت 17 میں آچکی ہے ‘ یعنی اللہ ہی نے مسیح علیہ السلام کی شخصیت کا لبادہ اوڑھ لیا ہے۔ اِنَّہٗ مَنْ یُّشْرِکْ باللّٰہِ فَقَدْ حَرَّمَ اللّٰہُ عَلَیْہِ الْجَنَّۃَ وَمَاْوٰٹہ النَّارُط وَمَا للظّٰلِمِیْنَ مِنْ اَنْصَارٍ اب عیسائیوں کے شرک کی ایک دوسری شکل کا ذکر ہو رہا ہے۔ ان کا ایک عقیدہ تو God incarnate کا تھا۔ یہ ان میں سے ایک فرقے Jacobites کا عقیدہ تھا کہ خود اللہ تعالیٰ ہی نے عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کی شکل میں انسانی روپ دھار لیا ہے۔ اوپر اسی عقیدے کا ذکر ہوا ہے ‘ لیکن عیسائیوں کے ہاں ایک عقیدہ تثلیث کا بھی ہے ‘ اور اس عقیدہ کی بھی ان کے ہاں دو شکلیں ہیں۔ ابتدا میں جو تثلیث تھی اس میں اللہ ‘ حضرت مریم اور حضرت مسیح شامل تھے۔ یعنی God the Father , God the Mother and God the Son. دراصل یہ تثلیث مصر میں فراعنہ کے زمانے سے چلی آرہی تھی۔ اسی کے اندر انہوں نے عیسائیت کو ڈھال دیا ‘ تاکہ مصر کے لوگ آسانی سے عیسائیت قبول کرلیں۔ اس کے بعد حضرت مریم کو اس تثلیث میں سے نکال دیا گیا اور Holy Ghost یا Holy Spirit روح القدس کو ان کی جگہ شامل کرلیا گیا اور اس طرح "God the father , God the Son and God the Holy Ghost" پر مشتمل تثلیث وجود میں آئی۔

CommentaryThis is an account of how the Bani Isra'il kept breaking the pledge taken from them. As said in verse 70, whenever their Messenger brought a command which did not suit their fancy, they would break their pledge and go about betraying Allah to the limit that they would falsify His Messengers, even kill some of them. They were commanded ` to believe in Allah and act righteously.' But, this was what they did in response. As for the other part of the command - ` Belief in the Last Day' their behaviour was equally reckless. After having committed acts so oppressive, they became totally carefree as if they would not have to pay for what they had done and as if the consequences of their injustice and rebellion will never come out in the open. Under this false impression, they became totally blind and deaf to Divine signs and words. They went on doing what should have not been done. So much so that they killed some prophets and put some others behind bars. Finally, Almighty Allah imposed on them the mastery of Nebuchadnezzar (King of Babylonia, 605-562 B.C., who took them as slaves to Babylon - Old Testament, book of Daniel). When, after a long time, they were sent back to Jerusalem from Babylon through help from some Persian kings who secured their release from disgrace under Nebuchadnezzar, they repented and turned to making amends. Allah relented and accepted their repentance. But, with the passage of some time, they went back to their old practices which made them so blind and deaf once again that they dared killing Sayyi.dna Zakariyah (علیہ السلام) (Zechariah) and Sayyidna Yahya (John) and were all set to kill Sayyidna ` Isa (علیہ السلام) (Jesus ).
