Surah Sad • Ayah 16

A Reminder of Those Who were destroyed among the Previous NationsAllah tells us about those past nations and the punishment and vengeance that struck them for their going against the Messengers and disbelieving in the Prophets, peace be upon them. We have already seen their stories in detail in numerous places (in the Qur'an). Allah says: أُوْلَـئِكَ الاٌّحْزَابُ(such were the Confederates.) meaning, `they were greater and stronger than you, they had more wealth and children, but that did not protect them from the punishment of Allah at all when the command of your Lord came to pass.' Allah says: إِن كُلٌّ إِلاَّ كَذَّبَ الرٌّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ (Not one of them but denied the Messengers; therefore My torment was justified.) `The reason for their destruction was their disbelief in the Messengers, so let those who are addressed here beware and be afraid.' وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَـؤُلآءِ إِلاَّ صَيْحَةً وحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٍ (And these only wait for a single Sayhah there will be no pause or ending thereto.) Malik narrated from Zayd bin Aslam; "There will none who can avert it," i.e., they will only wait for the Hour that it shall come upon them suddenly while they perceive not. But some of its portents have already come, i.e., it has drawn nigh. This Sayhah is the blast on the Trumpet when Allah will command Israfil to sound a long note, and there will be no one in the heaven or on earth but will be terrified, except those whom Allah spares. وَقَالُواْ رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ (They say: "Our Lord! Hasten to us Qittana before the Day of Reckoning!") Here Allah denounces the idolators for calling for the punishment to be hastened upon themselves. Qitt refers to a book or record, or it was said that it means one's allotted share or fortune. Ibn `Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, Mujahid, Ad-Dahhak, Al-Hasan and others said, "They asked for the punishment to be hastened." Qatadah added, this is like when they said: e اللَّهُمَّ إِن كَانَ هَـذَا هُوَ الْحَقَّ مِنْ عِندِكَ فَأَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَةً مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ أَوِ ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ("O Allah! If this (the Qur'an) is indeed the truth from You, then rain down stones on us from the sky or bring on us a painful torment.") (8:32). It was also said that they asked for their share of Paradise to be hastened, if it really existed, so that they might have their share in this world; they said this because they thought it unlikely to exist and they disbelieved in it. Ibn Jarir said, "They asked for whatever they deserved, good or bad, to be hastened for them in this world." What he said is good, and A-Dahhak and Isma`il bin Abi Khalid based their views on it. And Allah knows best. They said this by way of mockery and disbelief, so Allah commanded His Messenger to be patient in the face of their insults, and He gave him the glad tidings that his patience would be rewarded with victory and success.

گذشتہ مفرور قوموں کا انجام ٭٭ان سب کے واقعات کئی مرتبہ بیان ہو چکے ہیں کہ کس طرح ان پر ان کے گناہوں کی وجہ سے اللہ کے عذاب ٹوٹ پڑے۔ یہی وہ جماعتیں ہیں جو مال اولاد میں قوۃ و طاقت میں زور اور ذر میں تمہارے زمانہ کے ان کٹر کافروں سے بہت بڑھی ہوئی تھیں لیکن امر الٰہی کے آ چکنے کے بعد انہیں کوئی چیز کام نہ آئی۔ پھر ان کی تباہی کی وجہ بھی بیان ہوئی کہ یہ رسولوں کے دشمن تھے انہیں جھوٹا کہتے تھے۔ انہیں صرف صور کا انتظار ہے اور اس میں بھی کوئی دیر نہیں بس وہ ایک آواز ہو گی کہ جس کے کان میں پڑی بے ہوش و بے جان ہو گیا۔ سوائے ان کے جنہیں رب نے مستثنیٰ کر دیا ہے۔صفحہ نمبر7677 «‏قِطَّ» کے معنی کتاب اور حصے کے ہیں۔ مشرکین کی بیوقوفی اور ان کا عذابوں کو محال سمجھ کر نڈر ہو کر عذابوں کے طلب کرنے کا ذکر ہو رہا ہے۔ جیسے اور آیت میں ہے کہ «وَإِذْ قَالُوا اللَّـهُمَّ إِن كَانَ هَـٰذَا هُوَ الْحَقَّ مِنْ عِندِكَ فَأَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَةً مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ أَوِ ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ» ‏ [ 8-الأنفال: 32 ] ‏ انہوں نے کہا اللہ اگر یہ صحیح ہے تو ہم پر آسمان سے پتھر برسا یا اور کوئی درد ناک عذاب آسمانی ہمیں پہنچا اور یہ بھی کہا گیا ہے کہ انہوں نے اپنا جنت کا حصہ یہاں طلب کیا اور یہ جو کچھ کہا یہ بہ وجہ اسے جھوٹا سمجھنے اور محال جاننے کے تھا۔ ابن جریر کا فرمان ہے کہ جس خیر و شر کے وہ دنیا میں مستحق تھے اسے انہوں نے جلد طلب کیا۔ یہی بات ٹھیک ہے حضرت ضحاک رحمہ اللہ اور اسماعیل رحمہ اللہ کی تفسیر کا ماحصل بھی یہی ہے۔ «وَاللهُ اَعْلَمُ» ۔ پس اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کی اس تکذیب اور ہنسی کے مقابلے میں اپنے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو صبر کی تعلیم دی اور برداشت کی تلقین کی۔صفحہ نمبر7678

آیت 16 { وَقَالُوْا رَبَّنَا عَجِّلْ لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ یَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ } ”اور وہ کہتے ہیں : اے ہمارے رب ! ہمارا حصہ ُ تو ہمیں جلدی دے دے ‘ یومِ حساب سے پہلے۔“ یعنی تو ہمارا حساب روز حساب سے پہلے ہی چکا دے ! قِطّ کے معنی حصہ بھی ہیں اور یہ حساب کے رجسٹر چٹھا کے لیے بھی بولاجاتا ہے ‘ جس میں کسی کاروبار کی آمدن اور خرچ کا سالانہ حساب کتاب لکھا جاتا ہے اور اس سے اس کاروبار کی سالانہ بچت یا نقصان کا پتا چلتا ہے۔ یہ بات مشرکین مکہ استہزائیہ انداز میں کہا کرتے تھے کہ یہ جو محمد ﷺ ہمیں ڈراتے رہتے ہیں کہ ہمیں مرنے کے بعد اٹھایا جائے گا ‘ پھر ہمارے ایک ایک عمل کا حساب ہوگا اور اس کے بعد ہمیں سزا دی جائے گی ‘ تو اے ہمارے پروردگار ! اس کے لیے یوم حساب ہی کا انتظار کیوں ؟ یہ کام ابھی کیوں نہ ہوجائے ! اس لیے بہتر ہوگا کہ تو ہمارا حساب کتاب ابھی کرلے اور ہمارا چٹھا Balace Sheet ابھی اسی زندگی میں ہی ہمارے ہاتھ میں تھما دے۔

عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا (0 our Lord, give us our share [ of the punishment ] sooner, - 38:16 ). The word: قِطّ (qitt) used here is, in reality, the document through which someone has been promised with a reward. Later, this word came to be used also as a 'share' in an absolute sense. Here, this very sense is meant, that is, 'let us have whatever share is coming to us from the reward and punishment of the Hereafter right here in this world.'
