Surah Ash-Shu'ara • Ayah 151

A Reminder to Them of their Circumstances and the BlessingsThey enjoyed Salih preached to them, warning them that the punishment of Allah could overtake them and reminding them of the blessings that Allah had bestowed upon them, by giving them ample provision and making them safe from all kinds of dangers, giving them gardens and flowing springs, and bringing forth for them crops and fruits.وَنَخْلٍ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌ(and date palms with soft clusters.) Al-`Awfi narrated from Ibn `Abbas, "Ripe and rich." `Ali bin Abi Talhah narrated from Ibn `Abbas that this meant growing luxuriantly. Isma`il bin Abi Khalid narrated from `Amr bin Abi `Amr -- who met the Companions -- from Ibn `Abbas that this means, "When it becomes ripe and soft." This was narrated by Ibn Abi Hatim, then he said: "And something similar was narrated from Abu Salih."وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتاً فَـرِهِينَ (And you hew out in the mountains, houses with great skill.) Ibn `Abbas and others said, "With great skill." According to another report from him: "They were greedy and extravagant." This was the view of Mujahid and another group. There is no contradiction between the two views, because they built the houses which they carved in the mountains as a form of extravagant play, with no need for them as dwelling places. They were highly skilled in the arts of masonry and stone-carving, as is well known to anyone who has seen their structures. So, Salih said to them:فَاتَّقُواْ اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ (So, have Taqwa of Allah, and obey me.) Pay attention to that which could benefit you in this world and the Hereafter; worshipping your Lord Who created you, who granted you provisions so that you could worship Him alone and glorify Him morning and evening.وَلاَ تُطِيعُواْ أَمْرَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ - الَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِى الاٌّرْضِ وَلاَ يُصْلِحُونَ (And follow not the command of the extravagant, who make mischief in the land, and reform not.) meaning, their chiefs and leaders, who called them to Shirk, disbelief and opposition to the truth.قَالُواْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِينَ - مَآ أَنتَ إِلاَّ بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِـَايَةٍ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّـدِقِينَ - قَالَ هَـذِهِ نَاقَةٌ لَّهَا شِرْبٌ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ - وَلاَ تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ - فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصْبَحُواْ نَـدِمِينَ - فَأَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ إِنَّ فِى ذَلِكَ لأَيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

صالح علیہ السلام کی باغی قوم ٭٭حضرت صالح علیہ السلام اپنی قوم میں وعظ فرما رہے ہیں انہیں اللہ کی نعمتیں یاد دلا رہے ہیں اور اس کے عذابوں سے متنبہ فرما رہے ہیں کہ ”وہ اللہ جو تمہیں یہ کشادہ روزیاں دے رہا ہے جس نے تمہارے لیے باغات اور چشمے کھیتیاں اور پھل پھول مہیا فرمادئیے ہیں امن چین سے تمہاری زندگی کے ایام پورے کر رہے ہیں تم اس کی نافرمانیاں کرکے انہی نعمتوں میں اور اسی امن وامان میں نہیں چھوڑے جا سکتے۔ ان باغات اور ان دریاؤں میں ان کھیتوں میں ان کھجوروں کے باغات میں جن کے خوشے کھجوروں کی زیادتی کے مارے بوجھل ہو رہے ہیں اور جھکے پڑتے ہیں جن میں تہہ بہ تہہ تر کجھوریں بھرپور لگ رہی ہیں جو نرم خوش نما میٹھی اور خوش ذائقہ کجھوروں سے لدی ہوئے ہیں تم اللہ کی نافرمانیاں کر کے ان کو بہ آرام ہضم نہیں کر سکتے۔ اللہ نے تمہیں اس وقت جن مضبوط اور پرتکلف بلند اور عمدہ گھروں میں رکھ چھوڑا ہے اللہ کی توحید اور میری رسالت سے انکار کے بعد یہ بھی قائم نہیں رہ سکتے۔ افسوس تم اللہ کی نعمتوں کی قدر نہیں کرتے اپنا وقت اپنا روپیہ بیجا برباد کر کے یہ نقش و نگار والے مکانات پہاڑوں میں بہ تصنع وتکلف صرف بڑائی اور ریاکاری کیلئے اپنی عظمت اور قوت کے مظاہرے کیلے تراش رہے ہو جس میں کوئی نفع نہیں بلکہ اس کا وبال تمہارے سروں پر منڈلا رہا ہے پس تمہیں اللہ سے ڈرنا چاہیئے اور میری اتباع کرنی چاہیئے اپنے خالق رازق منعم محسن کی عبادت اور اس کی فرمانبرداری اور اس کی توحید کی طرف پوری طرح متوجہ ہو جانا چاہیئے۔ جس کا نفع تمہیں اپنے دنیا اور آخرت میں ملے تمہیں اس کا شکر ادا کرنا چاہیئے اس کی تسبیح وتہلیل کرنی چاہئیے صبح و شام اس کی عبادت کرنی چاہیئے تمہیں اپنے ان موجودہ سردارں کی ہرگز نہ ماننی چاہیئے یہ تو حدود اللہ سے تجاوز کر گئے، توحید کو، اتباع کو بھلا بیٹھے ہیں۔ زمین میں فسادپھیلا رہے ہیں نافرمانی، گناہ، فسق وفجور پر خود لگے ہوئے ہیں اور دوسروں کو بھی اسی کی طرف بلا رہے ہیں اور حق کی موافقت اور اتباع کر کے اصلاح کی کوشش نہیں کرتے۔‏“صفحہ نمبر6280

آیت 146 اَتُتْرَکُوْنَ فِیْ مَا ہٰہُنَآ اٰمِنِیْنَ ”تمہارا کیا خیال ہے کہ تم ان سب چیزوں کے درمیان جو یہاں تمہیں میسر ہیں ‘ یونہی امن و سکون اور اطمینان سے ہمیشہ رہنے دیے جاؤ گے اور یہ نعمتیں کبھی تم سے جدا نہ ہوں گی ؟

Commentaryوَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا فَارِ‌هِينَ ﴿149﴾And you hew out houses from the hills with pride. [ 149]According to Sayyidna Ibn ` Abbas ؓ ، the word فَارِ‌هِينَ (Farihin) means arrogant and conceited people. But Abu Salih and Imam Raghib have taken this word to mean experts. Therefore, the meaning of the verse is that Allah Ta’ ala has favoured you by teaching such skills that you could make houses by cutting hills. The essence of all this is that you should remember the bounties of Allah Ta’ ala and should not make mischief and trouble on earth.Useful vocations are Divine Graces provided they are not employed in bad thingsThis verse indicates that nice vocations are Allah's Graces, and to draw benefit from them is lawful. But if they are used for some sinful purpose or in an unlawful act, or if someone gets involved in them with unnecessary concentration, then it is not lawful to adopt them. An example of unnecessary construction of tall buildings and its contempt has just been mentioned in the previous verses.
